Brothers and Sisters-
We have had a busy weekend and the information and medical protocols continue to evolve and change. The demographics of people infected have changed to reflect a broader age range. As of this writing we have had at least 42,663 COVID-19 cases in the United States with 541 deaths.
The State of California has seen 1,600 cases with 30 deaths.
San Diego County has now seen 205 COVID-19 cases with 1 death reported.
This pandemic will have negative long term effects within our community. Many people in our community have lost their jobs and many families are struggling. Businesses, restaurants, and bars have been shuttered or have drastically changed their hours. Many restaurants are now only offering take out services. We are literally seeing soup kitchen and free meal line services within our community. Please keep these members of our community in our thoughts and be mindful of our actions and in our words.
Your Local continues to work with Fire management to ensure we are doing everything in our power to provide for your safety and well being.
Here is the latest CHULA VISTA IAFF LOCAL 2180 update and information as of MARCH 23:
Housing for ASYMPTOMATIC members:
We realize that many are feeling anxious and stress levels are high regarding potential exposures. We currently have members that out of an abundance of caution, would rather not go home and risk potentially exposing their family members. We have worked with management and city staff to locate accommodations where our members who are ASYMPTOMATIC can stay. Last night the Fire Chief has authorized the ability to stay in fire stations if desired. We also are working on getting Fire Station 10 opened up. Lastly, the City is finalizing local hotels for our asymptomatic members that need or request special arrangements. Please follow the processes and go through the chain of command.
Update on our test positive member and exposed member:
Our Local 2180 member who tested positive for COVID-19 is in good spirits and in good health. He is excited to get back to work and we are wishing him all the best as he finishes up his quarantine time.
Our potentially exposed and symptomatic member has tested negative for COVID-19 and is in good spirits. He is symptom-free and is looking forward to getting back to work.
